Research Chemist Technology Development

My Story at Ajinomoto Bio-Pharma Services

Why did you choose to work at Ajinomoto Bio-Pharma Services?

I had the opportunity to visit Aji Bio-Pharma as a student. After a brief presentation on the company’s operations we had a guided tour through the different departments. I was truly impressed by the infrastructure and excited by the challenges and opportunities offered by a company like Aji Bio-Pharma. When there was a vacancy a few months later, I didn’t hesitate for a second to apply.

What has been your career path at Aji Bio-Pharma Services?

I joined Aji Bio-Pharma in 1999 as an Analytical Development Chemist. A few months later I transferred to the R&D labs as a R&D Lab Chemist. After 14 educational and challenging years I joined the Technology Development department as a Technology Specialist. Since then I’ve been promoted to Research Chemist Technology Development.

What’s the most inspiring part of your job?

The most inspiring part of my job is certainly the discovery and development of all kinds of new technologies. It is fantastic to brainstorm about a potential new technology and then seeing it finally worked out during a first Pilot Plant run.

What is special about the culture at Aji Bio-Pharma Services?

At Aji Bio-Pharma you are empowered to innovate and to work autonomously. Employees work well with one another within, but more important between, the existing departments. Achievements are recognized and celebrated via the Kudos platform which is essential for keeping up the good work.

What have you gained from working here?

I have learned to persist, never give up and be extremely creative. My current job taught me to approach problems from different angles but always with great attention to details.

What advice would you give to recent new hires?

Remember that nobody starts as an expert but everybody can become one. Ask many questions and approach mistakes as learning opportunities, rather than pointing fingers.

What are you happiest doing, when you’re not working?

I really love race and mountain biking! It’s all about being outside and enjoying life.
